“People act in accordance with their beliefs, and skeptics are no different. Hence it is reasonable to expect that a skeptic will feel free to use as a basis for action any ideas that are shown to meet his criteria of legitimacy. On this basis, there is not only one, but several proofs for the existence of G-d and, as mentioned, there is no problem if one is forced to say that this existence is not grasped by the senses or the mind, or even if it contradicts rationality. As long as this existence accounts for observed reality and does so better than any other proposition, we have what is usually considered to be conclusive, scientific proof.”

“Our Sages teach, “Precious is man, for he has been created in the image of G-d.” In his Guide to the Perplexed, Rambam explains that “the image of G-d” refers to our capacity “to conceive of intellectual ideas and to be conscious of ‘Him who spoke and brought the world into being.’” This, the ability to use our minds creatively and to direct our thoughts to G-d, is the pinnacle of our human potential.”
The Rebbe – Shabbos Ki Seitse, 5751
"When a person sees, hears, or learns about an event, there must be a specific lesson of personal relevance… If this applies with regard to an individual occurrence, how much more so is it the case with regard to a person's career and work, in which the greater part of his energies, abilities, and time are invested."
The Rebbe, Mind Over Matter, Ch.2"

“The gates of editing are never closed.”

The Rebbe - to Prof. Herman Branover
"A hundred and fifty years ago they thought that science and physics spoke the absolute truth. Kant and Einstein proved that science never did and never will be able to give absolute truths. The scientist can only say: If you will accept these axioms and these methods of deduction, you will come to the following conclusions.."

“Nine Moses’ cannot make a minyan to say a kedusha, though that would be a tremendous amount of quality; but if you have ten in quantity [regardless of their stature], you can say kedusha, just as the Midrash Rabba stated that 600,000 were necessary for the Revelation at Sinai. This indicates that quantity transforms into quality.”

The Rebbe - meeting with Hillel Directors, August 1959

“From a scientific perspective, believing that G-d created billions of atoms… that later developed and evolved… is no different than believing – in accordance with the straightforward meaning of Bereishit – that G-d created the heavens and the earth on the first day…”

If G-d has given such an awesome power to such a small quantity for the purposes of destruction, He undoubtedly has done the same, and even more, for constructive and beneficial purposes.

It is impossible to achieve true upward movement without opposition. Just as the air’s opposition is employed to create a stronger upward movement than that which could be obtained using flotation, so too for a person to transcend the materialism of the world and get closer to G-d, it is not enough to involve the good inclination alone.

In light of this, we can understand the choice of oil as a metaphor for Chassidus. Oil has two distinctive qualities: it does not mix with any other liquid and it can penetrate all matter. The same is true of the teachings of Chabad Chassidism. It reveals the essence of our souls, the highest of our potentials. The Alter Rebbe’s contribution enables this potential to influence and affect the functioning of all our powers, and thus be expressed in every aspect of our lives.
